Linden Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ fourth round action kicks off tonight

MORE pulsating action in the second annual Banks DIH-sponsored Linden Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Futsal football competition continues tonight at the Wisroc/Amelia’s Ward car park, where several teams will be looking to keep their unbeaten record intact while some others will be looking to chalk up their first win. To date, 82 goals have been registered from the first three rounds of matches, with El Dorado’s Andrew Lambert holding the record for the fastest goal scored, when he eclipsed Kwesi Johnson and Darrel George’s previous record in the third round.
Both Johnson and George scored their goals in the first minute of play, but when El Dorado faced Top Class last week Saturday at the Silvercity Secondary School hard court, Lambert found the back of the net in a mere 13 seconds, even though his team lost the fixture 2-1.
In tonight’s opening fixture, Minibus will take on $100 Car Park and, with the former managing just one point from their opening match, a win tonight can propel them into second position behind group leaders Top Class who have 4 points from their two matches, while the latter is yet to open their points count.
In the second match, Classic Six who have one point will take on second-place Wash Boyz who have two points and lie in second place behind Pokerburg who top the group with four points.
Last year’s runners-up Retrieve Unknown will go up against Sheriff Squad in the third game and with both teams sharing the top tier of their group with three points each, a win by either side will see them take the lead and virtually seal their place in the quarterfinals.
Like $100 Car Park, Constab Warriors have found it difficult to accumulate a point in this year’s tournament. From the one game they have contested so far and with their opponents for tonight’s match, Coomacka, occupying the second position with three points behind The Amazing (4 points), an upset tonight will serve them well for the remainder of the preliminary round matches.
Following the usual Guinness 20 minutes break in action, the second half will resume with Attackers (1 point) taking on Trainline Warriors who are tied with the defending champions Eagles on two points at the top of Group F.
Star Boyz lead group E with 4 points but they will not be in action tonight, as Pepper Skull and High Stars who both have one point and share the second spot with Street Vybz, will be staking a claim for the runner-up position in that group.
Amelia’s Ward Russians have three points in group A and when they face South Stars who, like $100 Car Park and Constab Warriors, are yet to get off the mark, a certain win will see them catapult group leaders Rough and Rugged (4 points) into second place.
The final encounter for tonight will see two teams from Group H in One Mile/Half Mile (3 points) go up against Wisroc (1 point) and with the group leaders Goal Getters (4 points) having one more match to play, a win for either team will leave the group open for a quarterfinal place.
At stake in this year’s tournament is a first place prize of $500 000. The second-, third- and fourth-place finishers take home $250 000, $150 000 and $100 000 respectively, while the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and each team who entered to battle for supremacy, will receive a hamper, compliments of the sponsor.
