Fine, community service for marijuana possession

EIGHTEEN-year-old Leon Arthur (no address given) was fined $3,000 and ordered to do six weeks community service for being in possession of a narcotic. He pleaded guilty before Magistrate Allan Wilson, admitting that, on April 5, at Mahdia, Potaro, he had five grammes of cannabis (marijuana).
Police Sergeant, Gordon Mansfield, prosecuting, said ranks were on mobile patrol at Mahdia when they stopped and searched a minibus, in which the defendant was a passenger.
A search of Arthur’s person yielded the marijuana in one of his pockets, the prosecutor said.
Arthur told the court that he smokes the marijuana but not always and he begged for leniency.
