CHIEF Executive Officer (CEO) of Surinam Airways, Mr. Ewald Henshuys, said the airline is looking at the possibility of operating direct flights from Guyana to Toronto, Canada. He made this welcome announcement at a brief ceremony hosted at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri last Tuesday to inaugurate the return of Surinam Airways to Guyana.
Suriname’s President Desi Bouterse arrived on a one-day state visit to Guyana on board the inaugural Surinam Airways flight to Guyana. The Head of State, along with his delegation, was welcomed at the airport by President Donald Ramotar and other Guyanese officials.
Henshuys said Surinam Airways is honoured to start its service to Guyana after an absence of six years, with the Surinamese Head of State, His Excellency President Desi Bouterse, on board the inaugural flight, and President Ramotar welcoming them. He said this stipulated the importance of the route and the friendship between the two countries.
The CEO said good neighbours listen to each other’s needs and do all possible to assist, and Surinam Airways is a customer-driven company and has to adhere to its customers’ request now and in the future.
In this regard, Henshuys announced: “People from Guyana, we are looking at the possibility to fly on your behalf, to Toronto, Canada.”
He took the opportunity to congratulate everyone on the restart of the operation of the Paramaribo-Georgetown route twice a week, on Tuesday and Saturday.
“But most of all, I congratulate the Guyanese citizens with the direct non-stop flight to Miami, Florida,” he underscored.
The Surinamese airline also began its non-stop flight from Georgetown to Miami on Tuesday’ and the airline’s CEO also extended appreciation and thanks to everyone who made that operation possible.
It was also disclosed at the event that, before the end of this month, between Surinam Airways and KLM (Royal Dutch Airlines), there would be a familiarization (FAM) tour to the three Guianas – Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana — comprising tour operators from Europe.
The airline’s local office is located at 85 Quamina Street, Georgetown, and the Manager is Rudi Westerburg.
