THE 2012 Budget presented to the nation, last Friday, is indeed one that must be described as ensuring the continuation of the nation’s development, hitherto giving continued impetus to the nation’s transformation. At a glance, one would observe that there has not been any reduction in outlay to any of the sectors that is undertaking very critical capital works. As a result of this, those projects that are very central to the nation’s social and economic growth will continue without hindrance.
Beginning with the building of the Hope relief canal which completion is critical as a means of stopping the yearly flood waters being released from the East Demerara Water Conservancy, into the Mahaica and Mahaicony farmlands, so as to prevent overtopping.
Then there is the Amaila Falls Hydro project, which is so important to this nation’s future socio-economic development in terms of a low carbon economy, and facilitating cheap energy rates.
The CJIA extension project that will add improvements to a facility, bringing Guyana in line with international standards, especially as it endeavours to promote its growing tourist potential.
Thus the Budget is about ensuring continuity of development plans that will continue to bring benefits to the people, as well as enhance the modernization process.
