EMPRETEC Guyana recently hosted a special open forum, to reintroduce its International Diploma Programme, in Supply Chain Management.
Given the success of the diploma programme in 2011, Empretec Guyana is gearing up for the intake of the third batch of participants in the International Trade Centre’s (ITC) Modular Learning System in Supply Chain Management (MLS-SCM) Programme. Since 2000, ITC has offered this user-friendly, practical and effective portfolio of training materials to 57 organisations in 34 countries.
The supply chain management programme is aimed at present and future managers and specialists responsible for purchasing and supply chain management, and covers all key aspects of purchasing and supply chain management, such as Appraising and Short-listing Suppliers; Negotiating; Managing the Contract & Supplier Relationships; Managing Logistics in the Supply Chain; and Measuring & Evaluating Performance, E-Procurement, and Operations Management.
Upon completion of the corresponding exams, successful participants are awarded professional qualifications which are accredited by the ITC and by the participating network of institutions worldwide.
Through Empretec Guyana, this high-quality training programme is currently being offered to the local business community and the public sector with 18 participants currently enrolled and six others already attaining international certification.
At the special open forum last Tuesday, in the Campbell Room of the Georgetown Club, Camp Street, Georgetown, a keynote presentation was also given on “Developing and Using Different Supply Strategies for Different Types of Purchases”.
Managing Director, Empretec Guyana, Ms. Judy Semple-Joseph, said this programme was put together to support private sector development, and the supply chain management programme falls under enterprise competitiveness.
She said 18 modules cover the programme, helping companies to be more responsive to export markets, to be more dynamic in the global supply chain link, and to increase profitability.”
“At the end of the day, companies are able to be more competitive…the primary objective of this programme is to get companies to become more efficient,”
Semple-Joseph pointed out that Empretec Guyana has been licensed as the agent in Guyana for this particular Supply Chain Management programme.
She said this certificate programme is continually evolving, because of the network of specialists involved in putting the programme together, explaining that every year, based on the practical experiences of the people involved, the programme is updated.
Semple-Joseph said completing this diploma programme could be used to go on to the Master’s Degree programme.
It was also noted that the basic tenets of most of the modules could be applied to public procurement.
The next course of study will commence in May 2012, and exams are offered annually in March and September. Alternatively, persons who may not be interested in seeking the full professional qualification can register for customised workshops, which they consider important to their work performance, in areas such as Basic Purchasing Skills; Supplier Management; Strategic Procurement; Contract Management; Developing and Improving Customer Relationships; and Effective Management of Inbound and Outbound Freight Forwarding. The programme is being facilitated by local ITC certified professionals, in the field of supply chain management.
