MINISTER within the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Alli Baksh, accompanied by a high level team, visited the Guyana School of Agriculture (GSA) plot at Cotton Field, on the Essequibo Coast, where they inspected pens constructed by students of the institution, for the rearing of sheep and swine. Minister Baksh, whose vision when he was Regional Chairman of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) was to set up a branch of the GSA, said he is pleased that it has become a reality under the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Government.
He said the swine pen, which is built with concrete and wood, will give students practical experience to rear swine and carry out experiments while studying.
The Minister said students will also get experience in sheep rearing and planting crops on the plot.
Students, who followed the ministerial team on tour, said they are very happy for the farm so they can carry out the practical part of their training there.
Minister Baksh said he wants to develop the agriculture school over the coming years so more students can be enrolled to study and then move on to the University of Guyana.
The GSA school has 47 students on roll.
