Wade, Fraser and Merrel snare five- wicket hauls as GCC, GNIC win
OFF-spinner Orlando Fraser and fast bowlers Rawle Merrel and Joshua Wade snared five wicket hauls as Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) and Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) recorded victories over Police Sports Club and Transport Sports Club respectively, in their Georgetown Cricket Association/Carib Beer/Friends of Cricket/Heroes Cup two day first division encounter yesterday. Playing at the PSC ground, the visitors who resumed the second day on their overnight 263 for 9, after bowling out the home team for 105 in their first innings, were dismissed for 291, an overall lead of 186 to which PSC fared worse batting a second time as they were bowled out for 90.
Only Rawle Browne who struck four fours and one six in his 32 offered resistance to the bowling of Fraser who took 5 for 31 (10-75) and Merrel who supported him with 5 for 42 (7-61), as the Woolford Avenue team recorded an innings and 96 runs victory over the lawmen.
At the GCC ground, the home team restricted TSC’s first innings to 81 for 9, after resuming the day on 66 for 6 in reply to GCC’s 356 for 6 declared, with Wade ending with 5 for 44 and left arm spinner Devon Lord 3 for 9 in support.
Asked to follow on with a deficit of 279, TSC were bowled out for 103 second time around with Simeon Sam hitting five fours in his top score of 35 while Carl Rambharose offered support with 30 (4×4, 1×6), against the bowling of Winston Forrester and Lord who took four wickets each for 25 and 37 runs respectively, as GCC romped to an innings and 176 runs victory.
