ALLEYNE’s High School Alumni Association is soon to hold a week of activities, central to which will be the Annual General Meeting and election of an executive body to head the affairs of the association, which has as its primary mandate the re-opening of the school, which was closed in 2008. The programme of activities is due to take place from April 8 to April 15, 2012, and kicks off with a Thanksgiving church service, beginning at 17:00hrs, at the Alleyne’s AME Church in the school compound, located on Regent Road, Bourda, Georgetown.
Sharing the details of the programme with this publication were Founder/Coordinator Martin Gaul and Deon Jewel Smith, member of the Coordinating Team with responsibility for Religious Affairs.
At the end of the Thanksgiving Service, Smith said, there will be a Welcome Reception at the school, at which there is expected to be a large gathering comprising both local and migrant Guyanese who were former students of Alleyne’s High School.
On Tuesday, April 10, there will be a cultural show at the school, starting at 19:30hrs. The public is invited.
The Annual General Meeting – the highlight of the week of activities — will be held on Wednesday, April 11, during which there will be election and installation of office bearers. The meeting starts at 18:30 hrs, and is to be followed by a period of unwinding on Thursday, April 12 — when the group will make a tour of the Banks DIH facilities at Thirst Park, as well as travel to the Splashmin’s Fun Park and Eco-Resort at Madewini, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, for a day of recreation.
Meanwhile, the big Prom Night – literally an evening of elegance — is set for Friday, April 13, at 19:30 hrs. The venue is the Georgetown Club at Camp Street, and tickets are on sale at Wireless Connections under direction of Ms. Shelly Thom.
Come Saturday, April 14, there will be a Camp Fire Night for both the young and the old at the Scouts’ Association Headquarters on Woolford Avenue. It will be a virtual folk night, at which folk songs, games, cooking and eating competitions; and not least – the renewing of acquaintances with friends of yesteryear from both near and far – will feature prominently. Camp fire starts at 18:30hrs.
On Sunday, April 15, there will be a grand Family Fun and Sports Day at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary, Kingston beginning at O9:00 hrs.
