Suriname accredits Keith George as Guyana’s new resident Ambassador

AS Guyana continues to press its relations with neighbouring Suriname, Guyanese who now reside in the Dutch country can continue to enjoy consular and other services by Guyana’s Diplomatic Mission based in that country. On March 14, 2012, Suriname’s President Desire Delano Bouterse, received the credentials accrediting Keith Linden George as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Guyana to the Republic of Suriname.
Mr. Keith George served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for 19 years, working in the Technical Cooperation and Political Departments of the Ministry.
As Director of the Frontier Department, where he also served, George was instrumental in the efforts at protecting the territorial integrity of Guyana and ensuring that the obligations with respect to the maritime space over which Guyana exercises jurisdiction under International Law were met.
He led the team at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in preparation for Guyana’s submission for an extended continental shelf and has been a member of several Guyana delegations overseas.
Guyana’s relations with Suriname were taken to a different level as there is now very active cooperation in law enforcement. Discussions on the Corentyne River Bridge have also progressed to the preliminary design stage.
