Remanded on drug trafficking charge

DEVON Anderson, of 21 Good Intent, West Bank Demerara, was yesterday remanded to prison after he allegedly trafficked in 896 grammes of cannabis. He appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and pleaded not guilty to the charge, which stated that he trafficked in the drug on March 19.
Police Corporal Jairam Luckhai, prosecuting, said on the day in question officers from the narcotics branch received certain information and went to the defendant’s home.
Luckhai said a search was conducted in the presence of the defendant and the suspected cannabis was found in a bowl.
He said the defendant was arrested and the substance was weighed and tested in his presence.
The prosecutor objected to bail since no special reasons were given for this. The defendant will make another court appearance on March 23.
