THE preliminary inquiry in the Neesa Gopaul murder case continued yesterday with Simone De Noberga being further cross-examined by defence counsel, Mr. Vic Puran.
The witness was first called by Prithima Kissoon to give evidence against the victim’s mother, Bibi Gopaul, and her lover, Jarvis Small. The case, which is being conducted by Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, will be called again on March 23.
At yesterday’s hearing, Puran informed the court that De Noberga gave the court inconsistent evidence while she was under oath.
Kissoon objected and told the court that Puran continued to attack the credibility of the witness.
The lawyer added that the court has a function to observe that the witness is making a joke of the proceedings. He further made an application for the court to deal with the witness who showed great disrespect for the court.
The magistrate informed the lawyer that she appreciates what he said, and also what the witness said. She explained that De Noberga’s answer will discredit herself.
De Noberga again told the court that the lawyer is confusing her. On the previous occasion, she had said so when Puran drove her to tears when he suggested she was lying to the court.
Sixteen-year-old Neesa Gopaul’s body was found in the vicinity of Emerald Tower Resort, along the Soesdyke/Linden Highway, on October 2, 2010. Her disfigured corpse was stuffed in a large suitcase and dumped in the Madewini Creek.
