AGS makes donation to GDA

THE United Kingdom-based Association of Guyanese Societies (AGS) which is headed by Fiaz Alli, a Guyanese resident of that country, yesterday made a tangible and timely donation to the Guyana Darts Association (GDA) at the Clerical and Commercial Workers Union Hall. Prior to Chief Executive Officer of Go-Invest, Desmond Mohammed, making the presentation to president of the GDA Grantley Culbard, Mohammed, who for a brief period of his life resided and studied in the UK, said Alli and several UK-based Guyanese contributed to the donation.
According to Mohammed, Alli who also heads the UK-based Alvin Kallicharran Sports Foundation, is a keen enthusiast with sports and has in times past, made donations to cricket clubs here in Guyana and expressed the hope that the present one to the GDA would be of good use.
In his brief remarks, Culbard expressed his gratitude to Mohammed, who was representing Alli, saying that indeed the equipment which included boards, flights and stems, would be of good use as the GDA seeks to further develop the sport in Guyana.
Meanwhile, the GDA held a Two Doubles tournament at Granny Sports Bar which is located at Better Hope last Friday evening, along with a Sudden Death and One Game Open Doubles and Doubles Draw competitions.
In the One Game 501 Open Doubles Anthony ‘Granny’ Bissoondyal and Marilyn Adams beat the pair of Nicholas Murray and Leonardo Butcher in the final, after defeating Vickram Diaram and Rosetta Hiralall and the pair of Nicholas Seetaram and Hemwattie Amyan respectively in the semifinals.
The Draw Doubles best-of-three choices was won by Vibert Yearwood and Nicholas Seetaram from Sudesh Fitzgerald and Bryan James by a two-nil margin, after Yearwood and Seetaram edged Norman Madhoo and Javed Nandalall, and Fitzgerald and James overcame Anil Latchman and Sudesh Kumar in their semifinal matchup.
The Highest Check Out prize was won by Christopher Amyan with 117 points, while the GDA will test the new equipment received yesterday, when they stage a Draw Doubles and Singles at the CCWU Hall tomorrow night.
