KENRICK Mc Gowan, no address given, yesterday appeared in court on a simple larceny charge.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry. Particulars of the offence stated that, on March 18, he stole one BlackBerry cell phone valued $50,000, property of Sonia Seebarran.
Police Corporal Jairam Luckhai, prosecuting, said on the day in question, Seebarran was on duty at Faebs Restaurant on Hadfield Street, Georgetown, when the defendant went into the establishment.
Luckhai said Seebarran put down her phone to tend to customers and the defendant picked it up. He said when Seeberran discovered that her phone was missing, she checked the surveillance camera and saw the defendant pick up the phone and put it in his pants crotch.
The prosecutor had no objection to bail and the defendant was allowed this in the sum of $50,000 bail. The matter will be called again on April 2.
