The Scotiabank/Pepsi schools’academy football action continued on Saturday.
In game one – Lodge Secondary defeated new comers Central High by a 1-0 margin in the female segment. In a match which had some form of excitment with many one on one situations between the goalkeeper and striker but all resulted in no goals. Lodge got their goal in the 43rd min (60 min game) from Monique King during one of the many goal mouth scrimmages.
The game was very physical with limited skill, however determination and fighting spirit by both teams entertained the supporters from both teams who comprised of mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers.
At the sound of the final whistle the Lodge players were very excited screaming and hugging each other in celebration. One student could be heard telling her sir, “You got to buy chicken for we sir”.
In Game two – St Stanislaus College were taught a lesson on how to score goals, after East Ruimveldt trounced them by 10 goals to nil, at half time it was 5-0.
The game started at a hectic pace with the Saints holding their own for the first 24 minutes (70 min game). However when the first goal was scored in the 25th min the flood gates were opened.
Craig Hughes started the ball rolling with the first goal, Ronald Gittens then banged in his first of four goals in the 29th min.
He also scored in the 32nd, 37th and 50th min. Joshua Fiffee scored in the 34th min, Travil Preport in the 35th min, Ahmad Stephens in the 55th min, while a defence error accounted for a goal in the 65th min and Ashmaile Barrington scored the last goal in the 68th min.
The sun took a toll on the St Stanislaus players who looked drained after the game. However, they were not daunted and promised to bounce back saying that this was their first game together as a team and they promised to improve with the coaches input and come up with the correct formula on how to win matches and prevent goals scoring on them.
Action continues this weekend with two matches at the same venue. In game one in the female segment, Tutorial High and Tucville will meet at 09:30 hrs and in the male category, Queen’s College and Charlestown clash.
