Councillors call for arrest of deteriorating standards at E/bo schools

People’s Progressive Party / Civic (PPP/C) Councillor Farouk Khan and A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) Councillor Linda Duncan are both calling for rapidly deteriorating standards at schools on the Essequibo Coast to be arrested via investigation. Mr. Khan, a former Member of Parliament, said staff members at the Aurora Secondary School are undisciplined, and the Head teacher needs to do more to lift the standard of the secondary institution.
The Past Chairman of the Aurora Secondary School Parent/Teachers Association (PTA) also called on the Regional Democratic Council to look at the general performance of the school.
APNU Councillor Ms Linda Duncan called for a new building to house students attending the Abram Zuil Secondary School. She said the current building is overcrowded, and leaks in several areas whenever it rains.
However, over the past years, the government has spent large sums to rehabilitate additional wings of the Abram Zuil Secondary School, to enable students to learn in an appropriate environment.
Moreover, scores of new schools have been constructed, and many have been rehabilitated over the past years under the PPP/C government.
