St Vincent and the Grenadines students find visit here exciting
…tour part of CSEC exams curriculum
FOURTH Form students of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Girls High School are set to perform exceptionally well at the Caribbean Secondary Examination Council examinations next year. The students are in Guyana as part of the school’s annual tour of countries mentioned in History and Geography text books being used for the exams.
Speaking with the Guyana Chronicle at the Arrow Point Nature Resort on Wednesday, Shereline Roberts, head of the Geography and Science Faculties of the girls school, explained that the tour is aimed at giving the girls a first-hand experience of what is described in the texts.
The students have found the visit here exciting.
Among the places of interest visited by the more than 60 students were the CARICOM Secretariat, the National Museum, the Guyana Zoological Park and the several other locations in the city.
Yesterday they visited the mining community at Linden for a look at bauxite production.
Another main area of interest for the students is the sugar industry. According to Roberts, the students may not be able to visit the sugar estates nor will they have the chance to see the process from the fields to the factory, and then the final product. She explained that they were informed that due to the recent rains, they would not be able to have a first-hand look at the process.
Wednesday, the students travelled almost 17 miles from the capital city to the Arrow Point Nature Resort, where they blended with nature, had lunch, and relaxed a bit. Wednesday’s activities also included a visit to the Santa Mission.
According to another teacher, the hospitality of the Guyanese people is all it is touted to be, and they were all thrilled by the courtesy displayed by the Arrow Point staffers.
The St. Vincent and the Grenades students, since their arrival in Guyana has been receiving police protection, while Gerianne Austin, of Evergreen Tours has been acting as their local liaison.
The students are scheduled to leave for Suriname tomorrow.
