Majestic Kaieteur renders first-time visitors Awestruck!

A FLORIDA-based Guyanese family was on Wednesday afforded the opportunity of spending a day vacationing at Guyana’s own Kaieteur Falls, the world’s largest single-drop waterfall, compliments of Captain ‘Gerry’ Gouveia, Managing Director of the Roraima Group of Companies. Interacting during the tour, family members said that while there are many other unforgettable sites throughout the world, Kaieteur Falls showcases that treasured beauty of nature, and boasts millions of different species of plants and animals.
The family at reference comprises Narpattie Rajkumar, Hansraj Rajkumar, Savitri Latiff, Omar Latiff and Hanna and Adam Latiff.
The youngest members of the family, Adam and Hanna, who have lived practically all of their lives in Florida, were amazed at the different species of plants and animals that were pointed out to them by the tour guide from the Kaieteur Park.
Their parents said that not only was this an adventure for the children, but also an opportunity for them to see first-hand the beauty of Guyana, and what are the significant landmarks in the country of their birth that are recognized around the world.

The guide showed the family some of the most significant aspects of the Kaieteur National Park. These included the golden frog, the platform of land that stores gold and diamonds in its crevices, and several different types of plants with the rare feature of trapping and feeding on insects.

The Eternal Kaieteur
Kaieteur Falls, located in Kaieteur National Park in the centre of Guyana’s rainforest, is a major tourist attraction. Situated on the Potaro River in Central Guyana, it is located in the Kaieteur National Park. It is 226 metres (741 feet) when measured from its plunge over a sandstone cliff to the first break. It then flows over a series of steep cascades that, when included in the measurements, bring the total length of its descent to 251 metres (822 feet).
Kaieteur Falls is approximately five times higher than the famous Niagara Falls, located on the border between Canada and the United States of America; and about twice the height of the Victoria Falls, located on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe in Africa.

Kaieteur Falls is the world’s highest single-drop waterfall (741 feet), and the 122nd  tallest (single and multi-drop) waterfall in the world, according to the World Waterfalls Database.
Its distinction lies in the unique combination of great height and large volume of flow, averaging 663 cubic metres per second (23,400 cubic feet per second). Thus it is one of the most powerful waterfalls in the world, rivalling even the Jog Falls of India’s Karnataka state
during the monsoon season.
The pristine rainforest surrounding the Falls is loved by many. There are frequent flights between the airstrip at the Falls and the Ogle and Cheddi Jagan International airports on the coast of Guyana.
Upriver from the Falls, the Potaro Plateau stretches out to the distant escarpment of the Pakaraima Mountains.

The Potaro River flows into the Essequibo River, which is one of the longest and widest rivers in South America.
