Looking only on the negative side of things

MY recent commendation of the police on the great work done in intercepting that cocaine shipment stands alone in the media so far. The reasons being some sections of the populace are diametrically opposed to anything positive where the police and, by extension, the government is involved. One is sure to get a sarcastic response which runs like this, “after all, that’s what the police should be doing”, but a polite thank you will never be forthcoming from that group. On the other hand, if some rogue cop did a dastardly thing this makes headline news; there would be a mighty flood of comments coming from them, every negative comment you could ever imagine. This rabid obsession with things anti-police and anti-government is obvious.

It reminds me of a conversation I had with a member of that group, one to whom I would regularly send a text alert when an article of mine is published. To my dismay he openly admitted that he does not read the daily Chronicle reasons being, it only speaks of developmental issues, things a government should be doing anyway.
Now, aren’t things developmental important or positive things? Certainly they are, however, these are not matters my learned friend finds interesting. This is the epitome of asininity, when a person cannot stomach the fact that a government can make a positive contribution to society, he would rather stifle his conscience by not reading a newspaper that highlights the good things a government does.
He prefers to revel in the valley of ignorance because he hates the government. And this is the real reason behind the statement. With that mindset one gets the picture why positive things are not considered commendable in some quarters. I do not like the opposition but that does not preclude me from listening to what they have to say no matter how foolish the comment may seem.
