Post-mortem reveals Venezuelan miner strangled, suffered blunt trauma

POLICE are still investigating the discovery of the body of Venezuelan national Jose Ramon Valenzuela, 46, at the Sports Ground at Mabaruma, North West District, Region One (Barima/Waini) on March 11, 2012. However, a post-mortem examination performed on the body yesterday gave the cause of death as asphyxiation due to compression to the neck, compounded by blunt trauma to the head.
The man’s body bore multiple injuries after he was seen drinking with several men at a bar in the neighbourhood earlier that evening. Villagers believe that the miner was robbed before being murdered, and his body was dumped at the location.
