KINGSTOWN, St Vincent – The West Indies and Australia cricket teams got a warm and friendly welcome to the island of St Vincent at the official launch of the Digicel Series on Tuesday night. The two teams were special guests at the function hosted by Dr Julian Hunte, President of the West Indies Cricket Board. The event was held at the official residence of the Prime Minister of St Vincent & the Grenadines, Dr Ralph Gonsalves, who was joint host.
In welcoming the teams, Dr Gonsalves said: “The people of St Vincent & the Grenadines are delighted to welcome our brothers from Australia to these warm shores and we also welcome our brothers from the West Indies back home. It is good to have the Digicel Series starting here and we assure you Arnos Vale will be fully ready for the three upcoming matches.”
The guests, who also included Members of Parliament, Directors and Staff of the WICB, representatives of Digicel, and local cricket administrators, were treated to sumptuous local food and were entertained by local musicians.
Cricket returns to Arnos Vale ground tomorrow as the Digicel Series bowls off with the 1st ODI. First ball is 09:30hrs (08:30hrs Jamaica Time).
The scenic venue last hosted international cricket back in March 2010 when a large crowd turned out to see West Indies defeat Zimbabwe.
