Young couple’s home gutted

MARK Wilson and his family of three, including his wife and two children, are now homeless after a fire of unknown origin gutted their 554 10th Street, Dazell Housing Scheme home, on the East Coast of Demerara, just after 22:00hrs on Monday. Speaking with the Guyana Chronicle, Ingrid Caesar, mother of Nazela Wilson, said that her daughter and son-in-law were not at home at the time of the fire. Ingrid added that she was at her home in her internet café, a few streets away, when she received a call that the house was on fire. She said that when she arrived at the scene the building was already engulfed in flames.
The woman added that just last year the vehicle of the young couple was torched, and to this date, it is not known who committed the act.
Ingrid told the Guyana Chronicle that close to $50M million went up in flames on Monday night.
No household effects were saved.
Meanwhile, the Guyana Chronicle was told that Mark Wilson was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital on Sunday evening, with hypertension.
His wife apparently spent the night at the hospital with him, returned to the house Monday, and then back to the hospital with clothing for her husband.
She was out all day and returned that night when she got a call that her house was on fire. Persons in the area related that they saw Mark yesterday morning, accompanied by a nurse, as he came to get a first-hand look of what is left of his home.
Other persons in the area also praised the Guyana Fire Service for their timely response to the fire report, while the Guyana Power and Light was also commended for arriving within half hour to disconnect the power to the building.
The power to the area was restored just after midnight Monday.
