POLICE are investigating a report that a woman has defrauded a man of millions of dollars after formulating a relationship with him. The suspect is being accused of converting, to her own use, monies given to her to transact business on behalf of Hilton Grandsoult, of Lot 2926 North Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
Speaking to the Guyana Chronicle, at the new North Ruimveldt Police Outpost yesterday morning, Grandsoult said he first met the woman after he returned to Guyana and, three months later, they started a relationship.
He said he invested his cash in houses, cars and even a nightclub, in all of which she handled the financial aspects.
Grandsoult said the woman, unknown to him, began transferring his property to her name and had him arrested, recently, after claiming that he was in possession of things belonging to her.At the North Ruimveldt Outpost, where she had been ordered to hand back a microwave oven, the woman turned up in company with a young man who assisted her to take the appliance into the station.
The police had, earlier, confiscated a laptop computer from her and returned it to Grandsoult, who admitted he is confused with the entire ordeal, as he had spent millions to acquire the items the woman is now claiming.
Grandsoult said after persons around them heard what the woman was attempting to do, came forward and informed him that he is not the only person she had duped.
He said they claimed that she preys on men she perceives to be in good financial standing and furnished the names of several men the woman was able to trick, by pretending to be interested in real and meaningful relationships with them.
However, she maintained that she acquired numerous things by investing in land she owns.
One man, who confessed to knowing the woman, said contrary to what is reported, he is not aware of her being accused of squandering money entrusted to her.
