Lancaster murder trial nearing end

JUSTICE Dawn Gregory, the Presiding Judge in the Burt Lancaster murder trial, will sum up the evidence in relation to the accused on Monday morning beginning at 9:30 hrs, after which she would hand over the case to the jury for their consideration and verdict. Both defence and prosecution counsel have already addressed the jury.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Basil Williams, representing murder accused Burt Lancaster for the alleged murder of Deonarine Sukhdeo on April 19, 2006, urged the Demerara Assize jury not to convict his client, whom he claimed did not have a fair trial, while the mastermind in the matter, Daywan Kawal, was granted a plea agreement that earned him a manslaughter term of seven years.
On the other hand, Prosecutor Miss Konyo, who is appearing for the prosecution, in association with Miss Diana Kaulesar, urged the jury to return a verdict in accordance with the evidence.
In her opening address, the prosecutor had said to the jury, “Each of you has an idea of what murder is. However, for the purposes of the law, murder is defined as the unlawful killing of one human being by another with the intention to kill or cause grievous bodily harm or serious bodily harm, and the deceased must have died within a year and a day of the act committed.”
