THE Chronicle editorial on the GPF though welcome was too narrow. It is not just a question of a “few” corrupt ranks, it is about the culture, structure and leadership of the organization itself. They say that putting in the same input each time and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity.
The Chronicle responsibility is not to offend any institution but to point out thru constructive criticism how it may better serve the public, otherwise they appear to be biased or simply an apologist for them.
Surely, the periodic successes of the GPF cannot wipe out the constant reports of police wrong doing and failures. The constant repeated ideas that the GPF will automatically and miraculously become efficient, dedicated, and gain professionalism overnight if they were better paid and equipped, is a myth. They must first show that despite more pay and equipment, that they can perform better with what little they have, until they can get better. One must remember that the criminals come from the same local population and do not have half the equipment or foreign training as the GPF. Without a change in attitude, leadership at all levels and motivation, no training or pay increase alone will make the GPF better.
Police need a change in attitude
