THE Guyana Football Federation (GFF)-sponsored Under-17 Inter-Club Tournament, which is organised by the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA), will wrap up today at the Den Amstel Ground with what is expected to be an exciting day of football commencing at 11:00hrs. The first game of the day brings together Den Amstel and Uitvlugt in an Under-13 encounter then the second game will see the Eagles FC come up against Wales in the U-17 third place playoff prior to the final.
Den Amstel and Uitvlugt will battle in the U-17 final for top honours. The last time these two teams met Uitvlugt won 5-3. However, the boys in green are very optimistic that this time around the results will be different.
In last Saturday’s semifinal at the Den Amstel Ground, Uitvlugt had to dig deep to get past a determined Eagles United FC. After being down 6-1 at halftime Eagles came out full throttle in the second half scoring five consecutive goals to level the scores.
Unfortunately for them, the Uitvlugt captain was brought down in the box in the 87th minute to get a penalty and he made no mistake of putting it away from the penalty spot to give his side the victory.
The second semi was more of a one-sided affair with the home team getting the better of Wales FC by beating them 7-0 to book a place in the final.
Trophies and medals which were provided by the GFF will be distributed at the conclusion of the day.
