Lowe upsets Ray Khalil in Bounty Handicap Squash C’Ships

THE Guyana Squash Association 2012 season got on the way on Tuesday night at the Georgetown Club with the commencement of the annual Bounty Farm Limited Handicap Squash tournament with 10 matches being contested. Like every other successful staging, the tournament has attracted a lot of interest from the local squash players and this year was no exception, with more than 50 players participating in the tournament which was divided into Open and ‘A’ categories.
The remaining first-round matches in the Open category were scheduled to be played on Wednesday evening but due to the inclement weather all but one were rescheduled to last night and in that match, defending champion in the Open category Jason Ray Khalil suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Christopher Lowe who won 15–10, 15-2.

Other results in the Open category are
: Medhi Ramdhani defeated Ryan Whitehead 15-12, 15-12 while Ben Mekdeci got the better of Pablo Mundini 10-15, 15-9, 15- 13.
The ‘A category’ was also an intriguing category as Jonathan de Groot beat Jonathan Edwards 15-11, 15-12, Alec Melville trounced Travis Whitehead 15-9, 15-8, Haopei Yang demolished Taylor Fernandes 15-9, 12-15, 15-1, Maya Collins upstaged Samantha Fernandes 15-10,13-15, 15-8.
Rebecca Lowe overcame John Phang 15-10, 15-11, Andrew Peroune got past Justin Gomes 13-15, 16-14, 16-14, Alexandra Phang edged Lucas Jonas 15-13,13-15, 15-12, Mahendra Khusial won by default over Lydia Alphonso in matches that were contested in the ‘A’ category.
Matches continued last evening from 18:20hrs with the remainder of the Open category matches and daily with the finals scheduled from 11:00hrs on Sunday at the same venue.
