DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (CMC) – No West Indies batsman has made the top 20 of the latest ICC One-Day International player rankings announced earlier this week.
The highest ranked player is the estranged Chris Gayle who lies 31st despite having not played an ODI in almost a year. Gayle, a former West Indies captain, has been overlooked for selection since last year’s World Cup because of an ongoing squabble with the West Indies Cricket Board.
Lendl Simmons is ranked 32nd with veteran left-hander Shiv Chanderpaul installed at 33rd.
South African opener Hashim Amla leads the rankings followed by compatriot AB de Villiers.
In the bowlers’ rankings, fast bowler Ravi Rampaul is the highest placed West Indian at 19th. He dropped one place from 20th and is now tied with Zimbabwe left-arm spinner Ray Price.
Fast bowler Kemar Roach is the other West Indies bowler in the top 30 at 25th.
Outstanding Pakistani off-spinner Saeed Ajmal heads the bowlers’ rankings.
