Armed robbery at Car Zone

THE police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred Wednesday at Car Zone, an auto supplies shop at 174 De Abreu Street, Newtown, where a man was robbed of his gold chain, gold bands and a BlackBerry cell  phone. Speaking with media operatives just almost one hour after the robbery yesterday, Avey St. John explained that her brother was in the shop when two men entered under the pretext of wanting to make a purchase. According to the woman, her brother was skeptical of even tending to the men as something seemed strange about the way in which  they were operating.
The men  then said, “This is a hold-up,” and relieved their victim of his valuables.

The robbers then ran into Garnet Street where they entered a waiting Toyota Raum motor car.
While making their escape, it was reported that the men fired shots to keep at bay a taxi driver who witnessed the entire episode and was attempting to follow them. It was also reported that the same taxi driver attempted to render assistance to the victim in the midst of the robbery, but kept his distance after he noticed the men were armed.

According to the woman, the suspects appeared to be very young.
She said that the police were contacted and when they arrived on the scene and were told the facts of the robbery, they informed the victim and his family that they are following leads in a similar robbery in the Sophia area.
Avey St. John also told reporters that the taxi driver who was attempting to follow the getaway car managed to get a good look at the number plate.
