Prashad, Singh and Agard are double winners at ASK tournament

RUEL Prashad, Jonathan Singh and Shaquille Agard came out double winners when the Association do Shotokan Karate-Guyana Incorporated held its fourth annual Mashramani karate championships at the YMCA, Thomas Lands dojo last Friday. Prashad took the Boys’ Under-10 kata with Joshua Butts and Jay Evans occupying the second and third positions respectively, before he snared the kumite title for the same age group from Aryan Singh and Butts in that order.
Jonathan Singh carted off the Boys’ 10 and 11 years old kata and kumite events from Anthony Bevaun and Kyle Stepheny who finished second and third respectively in both.
Agard was too strong for Armand Ramdhani and Jason Bulla in the Boys’ 12 and 13 years old Kata event before he returned to take the kumite title in the same age group from Bulla and Michael Mitchell respectively.
The female Open kata event was won by Christina Pooran from Akashani Alli and Colissa Trotman, while Alli turned the tables on Pooran to take the kumite title, with Arielle Matthews occupying the third spot.
Kemo Cornelius was an easy winner in the Male 14 and 15 years old kata, leaving Shane Wilkinson and Christopher Belfield in his wake, while Wilkinson took the kumite title with Cornelius second and Belfield once again finishing third.
Shane Rahaman and Lloyd Gibson shared the fortunes in the male Under-20 kata and kumite events, with Rahaman taking the kata and Gibson the kumite, before the curtain came down on the day’s events with competition in the Male 20 to 39 years old category.
Roger Peroune took the kata title from Kyle Isaacs and Keith Beaton, while Beaton turned the tables to take the kumite title from Isaacs and Peroune.
