RAJENDRA Gossai has been charged with the February 16 murder of Richard Sanicharan. The accused appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore at Sparendaam Court, East Coast Demerara, on Tuesday, when he was remanded to prison until March 28.
The prisoner is alleged to have fatally chopped the victim with a cutlass and his court appearance caused quite a stir amongst Sanicharan’s family members who were present and demanded that Gossai be punished.
Sanicharan was a seaman who lived at Mon Repos, on East Coast Demerara, where he was killed, too. A post mortem examination revealed that the deceased suffered stab wounds to his heart, his ankles were nearly severed and behind his ears was pierced with a knife.
The dead man was cremated on February 22 at Good Hope Cemetery, East Coast Demerara.
