Defendant on four charges after Ogle accident

ZULFICAR Mohammed, 36, of Lot 133 Goedverwagting, has been charged with four offences following an alleged hit and run accident on February 20. He appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore, at Sparendaam Court, last Tuesday, facing charges of driving dangerously in a manner that showed risk to the public, failing to stop after an accident, failure to report it and not rendering assistance to the injured person, Rasheed Ally.
The mishap occurred at Ogle Public Road, also on East Coast Demerara and the defendant pleaded not guilty to all the offences.
Police Sergeant Bernard, prosecuting, said witnesses saw the defendant fleeing the scene and he was identified by several other persons.
Defence counsel, Arun Gajraj said he has known the defendant for quite a while and declared that the charges are preposterous.
The lawyer said he has always known Mohammed to be a person of kind nature and the latter is prepared to take full responsibility for the injured man’s medical treatment and repairs to his vehicle.
According to Gajraj, the vehicle Mohammed drives belongs to the Government of Guyana.
After the court hearing, the defendant signed some documentation and was released on his own recognisance, on the assurance of Gajraj that the former will keep his word.
