Fined $30,000 for using threatening language

HAIMNAUTH (only name given), of Lot 159 Barr and Alexander Streets, Kitty, Georgetown, appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton yesterday, on charges of using threatening language and assault causing actual bodily harm. He pleaded guilty to the charge that said, on February 18, he made use of the threat to Onika Nauth, causing a breach of the peace. But he denied that he unlawfully assaulted Linden Williams to cause him actual bodily harm.
Police Sergeant Gordon Mansfield, prosecuting, informed the court that defendant and the virtual complainant live in the same yard but in different houses.
The prosecutor said the defendant was under the influence of alcohol when he saw the virtual complainant passing his house and told her he wanted to speak with her. But because she refused to have the conversation, he became annoyed and threatened to chop her up.
After she made a report to Kitty Police Station, on her return home, the defendant threatened her again, saying that he would put a bullet in her head, the prosecutor reported, adding that the woman became fearful and made another report, resulting in the police going to the defendant’s home and arresting him.
Haimnauth admitted he had a few drinks and said he and the virtual complainant were involved in an exchange of words.
The magistrate advised him not to drink if he does not have control of his tongue and informed him that it is the virtual complainant’s democratic right if she refused to speak with him and that he cannot force her to do so.
After Haimnauth was fined $30,000, he promised not to ever drink alcohol again and was put on $20,000 bail for the unlawful assault charge, pending trial on March 16.
