NORTH SOUND, Trinidad, (CMC) – Stafanie Taylor followed up another impressive spell from Anisa Mohammed with an unbeaten 54 to usher West Indies Women to an eight-wicket victory over India Women on Saturday. Taylor struck half-dozen boundaries from 52 balls, as Windies Women, chasing 102 for victory, hit the jackpot with 24 deliveries remaining in the first Twenty20 International at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground.

Mohammed had collected three wickets for 20 runs from four overs, as India Women were restricted to 101 for nine from their 20 overs.

Windies Women take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series which continues on Sunday at the same venue.

The home team was always in control, once they reduced the visitors to 38 for three in the eighth over and never allowed the Indians to recover.

A direct hit from Shakira Selman ran Amita Sharma out for over before Stacy-Ann King bowled Mithali Raj for 14 and Mohammed removed Sulakshana Naik for 11.

After this, the Windies Women tightened their grip, despite a top score of 28 off 29 balls from Harmanpreet Kaur.

Windies Women were setback early when they started their chase with Jhulan Goswami removing opener Juliana Nero for a duck in the first over.

Taylor came to the crease and dominated a stand of 44 with compatriot Shanel Daley, who was adjudged lbw to Archana Das for 11.

This brought Deandra Dottin to the crease and with Taylor carried the hosts to victory with an unbroken stand of 58 for the third wicket.
