I WISH to refer to a letter by Tony Vieira in the Stabroek News under the caption, “The PPP is the last government which should talk about intractable postures” in its issue of Tuesday February 14, 2012.
I wish to state the following:
Tony Vieira should be the last person to speak about political issues on this planet, since he badly wanted the leadership of the United Force (TUF) party at its 2006 members’ conference, but his nomination was rejected by party members because they knew not from whence he came.
The Attorney General, Minister Nandlall said that he was being consistent with the law which did not specify the drafting of Bills for the opposition. Get your facts straight Vieira and stop misleading the people.
Stop misleading the people Vieira, the PPP/C won the November 2011 elections by obtaining 32 seats. The APNU got 26 seats and AFC, 7. The difference is that the PPP/C did not win by a majority, since with the coalition of the APNU and AFC, they have the majority by one seat over the government side of the house.
Vieira is now fuming over the 1980 Burnham constitution which does not allow coalition-building after elections. If this were the case, according to Vieira, the APNU and AFC would have formed a coalition government. But it appears as if Vieira is losing his memory. The party he supports, the PNC, did not recommend “coalition–building after elections,” to the 1998 Constitutional Reform Commission for inclusion in a revised Guyana constitution.
Vieira must know that the opposition cabal in Parliament will soon destroy themselves because of their incompetence in dealing with Guyana’s current political dispensation. Their supporters should therefore put dunce caps on their heads when they attend Parliamentary sittings.
Vieira must get his facts correct
