THE preliminary inquiry (PI) into the murder charge against the man accused of killing Shewraney Doobay, wife of prominent physician, Dr. Ramsundar Doobay, resumed before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton yesterday. Police Inspector, Fazal Karimbaksh, prosecuting, called the widower, who is Head of Internal Medicine at Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), to give evidence leading up to the death of the victim.
Lance Corporal, Desmond Johnny also took the witness stand and testified against the prisoner Shakir Mohamed, of Lot 127 Latchuni Street, Better Hope, East Coast Demerara.
The doctor and the policeman were both cross-examined by defence counsel, Vic Puran.
Inspector Joel David and Corporal Devon Lowe are expected to make depositions when the proceedings continue on March 1.
Last January 3, Mark Singh, nephew of the dead woman, who was jointly charged with Mohamed for the unlawful killing, died at the GPH, reportedly of high blood pressure.
The body of Mrs. Doobay, 58, was found on the evening of May 24, 2011, in her Echilibar Villas, Campbellville, Georgetown home.
Reports said the tragic discovery was made by her husband around 18:00 hrs, after he had returned home and, getting no answer from his wife, secured the assistance of a male relative to gain entry into the house.
