Two more testify at PI in terrorism case

TWO more witnesses took the stand yesterday when the preliminary inquiry (PI) into the charges against the men accused of conducting terrorist activities resumed. Before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, also charged with setting fire to public buildings are Colin Jones, Randy Mars, Basil Morgan, Anthony Watson and Jahfar Simpson.
Yesterday’s deponents were Station Officer of the Guyana Prison Service (GFS) Gregory Wickham and Police Detective Sergeant Ganesh Singh.
The proceedings were then adjourned to February 22 and Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, informed the Court that approximately eight more witnesses are to be called.
Recently, the accused were committed to stand trial in the High Court on other charges of attempt murder.
The remanded prisoners made their first court appearance in 2010 after the arson at the Ministry of Health, in Brickdam; attempts to burn the Richard Ishmael Secondary School and the Supreme Court building as well as the gun attack on Brickdam Police Station, all in Georgetown, during July 2009.
