A MAN, already charged with break and enter and larceny, faced a drug-trafficking charge yesterday, after being searched prior to entering the courtroom. Derrick Fraser, of Lot 134 Hadfield Street, Georgetown, had appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and pleaded not guilty to the burglary charge, particulars of which said, between February 9 and 10, he broke and entered the dwelling house of Shawina Smart and stole a quantity of items valued $281,000.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, successfully objected to bail for Fraser, stating that a narcotics-related charge will be instituted against him.
The prosecutor said, while the defendant was being escorted into court, ranks on duty conducted a search of his person and found two grammes of cocaine.
The magistrate refused Fraser pre-trial freedom since he will be charged with another offence and transferred his case to a different court.
Later in the day, Fraser made an appearance in front of Magistrate Judy Latchman and pleaded not guilty to having trafficked the narcotic and that case and the other, will both be called tomorrow.
