Shot larceny convict advised: learn lesson in prison

CARLOS Grant (no address given) was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment yesterday, on conviction for simple larceny. Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton imposed the custodial punishment on him after he pleaded guilty to the offence.
The prisoner admitted that, on January 28, he stole a pedal cycle, 30 cases of empty bottles and one battery, all valued $76,000, property of Patrick De Freitas.
Police Sergeant Gordon Mansfield, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant was at his home when he heard a noise in his backyard.
De Freitas went to investigate and found the thief, whom he handed over to the police, the prosecutor said.
Grant told the court he had followed a friend to buy a bag of weed when De Freitas saw and fired shots at him, hitting him on his left leg.
The magistrate warned Grant to be careful of what he says in court, as she suggested to police ranks present that they should investigate him on the basis of what he said.
Before sentencing, the magistrate admonished Grant to spend his time in prison learning a lesson.
“Clean your act up because the next time the bullet might not catch you in your foot, it might pierce your heart,” Magistrate Octive-Hamilton advised the convict.
