Octogenarian remanded overnight on trafficking charge
AN OCTOGENARIAN was sent on remand, overnight, yesterday, after he pleaded not guilty to drug trafficking.
Before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, Simeon Bunbury, of Lot 12 Grove Public Road, East Bank Demerara, was charged with having 72 grammes of cannabis (marijuana), for the purpose, on February 9. Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said ranks raided the 84-year-old defendant’s home and found the narcotic behind a television. The prosecutor objected to bail for Bunbury, pointing out that no special reasons were given as required, and that the latter has a similar case pending in another court.
The case has been transferred to the Providence court, on the East Bank of Demerara, as well, for today.
