Brothers share different fates after police raid

TWO brothers shared different fates when they appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, on charges of trafficking in narcotics.
Ramesh Persaud, of Lot 159 Grove Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, pleaded guilty to having trafficked five grammes of cocaine on February 9, and was sentenced to three years imprisonment and fined $30,000.
Derrick Persaud, of the same address pleaded not guilty to trafficking five grammes of cannabis (marijuana) and three grammes of cocaine.
The former admitted that he usually smokes and had the prohibited substances, but Derrick, who maintained innocence, was remanded to prison overnight and will appear at the Providence court, on the East Bank of Demerara, too, today,
Police Corporal Jairam Luckhai, prosecuting, said ranks were in the Grove area and raided the siblings’ home, where they found leaves, seeds and stems of the cannabis plant behind a picture frame.
