Judge grants bail to previously denied larceny defendant
JUSTICE Brassington Reynolds, at the Berbice High Court in New Amsterdam, granted accused purse snatcher Rawle Dey $20,000 bail, on Thursday. The 36-year-old defendant had been previously refused pre-trial liberty when he appeared before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo and an application, by Defence Counsel Charandas Persaud was denied.
Dey (no address given) was remanded to prison, on that occasion, after he pleaded not guilty to a larceny charge.
The court was told, then, that the virtual complainant, student Dianne Mahase, had left afternoon sessions of lessons and was walking along Main Street, New Amsterdam, when the defendant snatched her purse containing $3,000.

Dey, however, claimed he was injured when beaten by police but that allegation was refuted.
The case will be called, again, on February 13, in the Magistrate’s Court.
