‘Buck Man’ jailed after betraying trust with money

TROY De Santos alias ‘Buck Man’, 28, of Providence, East Bank Demerara, was yesterday sentenced to six months imprisonment, on being convicted of simple larceny.
Magistrate Allan Wilson imposed the custodial penalty on the convict, after the case was tried on transfer from another Court.
De Santos was found guilty of stealing $11,000 from Wendy Wilson on December 23, 2011.
Wilson had entrusted the money to the prisoner to purchase two cases of Guinness but, subsequently, he could not give account for it.
De Santos told the Court that he claimed he had lost the cash only because Wilson was serious with him, but he in fact, spent it gambling with his friends.
Magistrate Wilson declared it was a betrayal of trust and jailed Wilson, expressing the hope that he would learn his lesson and never again commit such an offence.
