ACCUSED Desmond Ross called Desmond Douglas, 40, and Travis Mayers, 19, both of Number 53, Corentyne, appeared before Magistrate Krishendat Persaud, on Tuesday, charged with attempted murder. The indictable charge alleged that they wounded Mark Jeffrey, a clothes vendor and fellow villager.
The men were refused bail and remanded to prison, following their appearance at Mibicuri Court, in Black Bush Polder, Corentyne.
It is reported that, on February 1, Jeffrey was in his yard doing laundry while playing music which, apparently, annoyed his neighbours with whom he does not have a speaking relationship.
Consequently, the duo armed themselves with cutlasses, sneaked into the virtual complainant’s premises and dealt him several chops about his body, the Court was told.
Shouts for help, by Jeffrey, alerted public-spirited citizens who rushed to his assistance and took him to Skeldon Hospital, Corentyne, from where he was transferred to New Amsterdam Hospital, also in Berbice, to which he was admitted a patient in the Intensive Care Unit.
The case will be called again tomorrow.
