Porkknocker granted $350,000 bail on wounding charge

MAGISTRATE Hazel Octive-Hamilton yesterday granted porkknocker Asbert Stephanie $350,000 bail on an unlawful wounding charge. The accused, 32, of Lot 5 Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara, is charged, indictably, with having, on February 3, at 111 Miles, Mahdia, Potaro, unlawfully and maliciously wounded Shevon Smith.
Police Sergeant, Gordon Mansfield, prosecuting, did not object to pre-trial freedom for Stephanie but requested that the sum be substantial to ensure that the accused returns to court.
The prosecutor said the accused used a chopper to inflict injuries on the victim’s neck.
Stephanie, repeatedly, addressed the magistrate as ‘Mister’, causing her to enquire if he is on drugs. To that enquiry, Stephanie replied that, for a year now, he has not smoked cannabis (marijuana).
He has to be back in court on April 18.
