Son absent as father denies assault charge
HENRY Boston, 75, of Vauxhall, West Bank Demerara, appeared before Magistrate Chandra Sohan at Vreed-en-Hoop Court, West Coast Demerara, yesterday, on an assault charge. It is alleged that the defendant unlawfully assaulted his son, Norman Boston, at their home on Monday, February 6.
The father pleaded not guilty but the virtual complainant did not attend court and Police Sergeant Matthews, prosecuting, was granted permission to summon the latter to make an appearance when the case is called, again, on February 13.
In another assault case, Jaideo Persaud (no address given) pleaded not guilty to having, on February 6, unlawfully and maliciously assaulted his wife, Shazeela Alli, to cause her bodily harm.
The woman, who was also present, told the court she forgave Persaud as she understands he acted out of anger.
As a result, the magistrate, noting that the case cannot be pursued as Alli did not wish to take further action, put Persaud on a bond to keep the peace for 12 months.
