Confessed burglar sentenced to four months imprisonment

JOHN Broomes, who appeared in court with shackled feet, was sentenced to four months imprisonment yesterday, for burglary. The prisoner, 36, of Lot 130 Wisroc Housing Scheme, Linden, pleaded guilty to the offence before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell.
He admitted that, during the night of February 2, at Lot 236 David Street, Kitty, Georgetown, he broke into the dwelling house of Shawn Rahim and stole $100,000 and a $65,000 gold ring.
Police Sergeant, Neville Jeffers, prosecuting, told the court that Rahim’s wife saw the burglar in their home and raised an alarm. Her husband apprehended him and, subsequently, handed him over to the police.
The convicted father of one said, when he came out of the interior, the virtual complainant took two gas cylinders from him and pushed him around for his payment.
He said he gave back all of the booty as soon as he was caught.
The magistrate pointed out to Broomes that his narrative was different from that of the Police Prosecutor and reminded him that actions have consequences.
If his story was true, he could have taken legal recourse to get his money, the thief was advised.
