AN explosive football double-header, filled with keen and intense rivalry, is set to unfold today at the GFC Ground, Bourda, when the Thomas United 52nd anniversary, in collaboration with Winners Connection Mashramani Challenge Cup Knockout, takes place. Competition gets under way with the ongoing Georgetown and Linden rivalry. Kick-off time is 20:00hrs for the feature match which brings together B.K Int’l Western Tigers and Bakewell Topp XX.
In the curtain-raiser at 18:00hrs Pele come up against Net Rockers. All four teams are going through a phase of rebuilding, placing emphasis on youths, ably assisted by a few experienced players of their own.
Football fans and supporters alike can expect an evening of entertaining displays from the four teams, as they all seek to advance to the quarterfinals.
However, with only the two winners advancing, city-starved football fans can expect two fast-placed matches and the teams making the least number of mistakes can be assured of their respective places in the next round.
Over $1M in cash incentives along with trophies, medals and individual prizes are at stake. The winner, runner-up, third- and fourth-placed teams will take home $500 000, $300 000, $150 000 and $50 000 respectively, along with the respective trophies.
