DPP recommends inquest into schoolboy fatal shooting

POLICE Crime Chief, Seelall Persaud said, Monday, that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has advised an inquest be held into the fatal shooting, last Friday, of Justin Nobrega, during a hunting trip with his father and a male relative. After that inquiry, the file must be sent back to the DPP for further advice, the Assistant Commissioner said.
Meanwhile, the father and the other man, who were in police custody pending investigations, have since been released.
The South Ruimveldt secondary school student was shot about 23:01 hrs on January 27, at Adventure, along the Soesdyke/Linden Highway, while in company with the two men, who are both licensed firearm holders.
The men were in pursuit of an animal when the incident occurred. Police said the lad, of Adelaide Street, Charlestown, also in Georgetown, was shot two times and pronounced dead on arrival at the Linden Hospital Complex, Mackenzie.
A post mortem examination performed on the body revealed that he died from perforation of the heart and lungs, due to gunshot injuries.
