A MAN and his reputed wife were each sentenced to four years imprisonment and fined $30,000 for cultivating cannabis sativa (marijuana). Levi Wilson and Ena Lindie (no addresses given) pleaded guilty before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and particulars of the offence stated that, on January 28, they cultivated the prohibited plant.
Police Corporal Jairam Luckhai, prosecuting, said police conducting an eradication exercise in the Berbice River area found the defendants on the cultivation.
The field was 200 feet long and 100 feet wide.
Wilson told the Court that he had planted some cannabis to smoke.
