ONE hundred and one women have graduated from a life skills training programme funded by the United Nations and Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF) under the Guyana Women’s Leadership Institute, in the Ministry of Labour, Human Services and Social Security. The graduates, who were presented with certificates at the impressive graduation ceremony in the boardroom of State House, Anna Regina, Essequibo Coast, were told by Administrator of the Women’s Bureau, Ms. Kay Lagan, that they must use their new knowledge to contribute to their families economically.
She said the main aim of the course was to equip women with knowhow and the graduation was a proud moment for the Human Services Ministry, because the beneficiaries are the fabric of society.
Lagan urged the trained group to always be vigilant and not be afraid of anything in life. She said the certificates will determine what they will achieve in the future.
Coordinator of the Guyana Women’s Affairs Bureau, Ms. Sheila Veerasammy, said the process was intended to give women an opportunity to better themselves and families.
Some of the topics covered included self-understanding, leadership, gender equality and community development.
